Chevy Revealed the Next-Generation 2027 Silverado 1500. Here Is What Fort Liberty Truck Buyers Should Know

Chevrolet pulled the cover off an all-new 2027 Silverado 1500 on June 16, 2026. It is a ground-up redesign rather than a facelift, with two brand-new V8 engines, a seven-trim lineup, and the Z71 off-road package now standard on every four-wheel-drive truck. Chevrolet says it goes on sale by the end of 2026, which puts it on Bragg Blvd sometime after that. Pricing and capability ratings have not been published yet.
What Chevrolet Announced
On June 16, 2026, Chevrolet revealed the fifth-generation Silverado 1500. This is the biggest change to the nameplate in years. The truck moves to an updated platform, and the engine lineup is genuinely new rather than carried forward.
Two all-new V8 engines
The headline is a pair of sixth-generation Small Block V8s, a 5.7-liter and a 6.6-liter. Both are new engines, not revisions of the outgoing 5.3 and 6.2. Chevrolet claims the larger of the two is the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in the full-size pickup class. That is the company's characterization, and the actual output figures have not been published.
The 2.7-liter TurboMax four-cylinder continues in enhanced form, and the 3.0-liter Duramax turbo-diesel carries over. The Duramax reaches the base Work Truck trim for the first time, which matters to fleet buyers who want diesel range without stepping up a trim.
A simplified seven-trim lineup
Chevrolet confirmed seven trims. The RST and LTZ names are gone, and a trim simply called Silverado replaces the LT in the middle of the range.

Screens and driver tech, standard
A 16.3-inch center touchscreen and a 12.2-inch digital driver display are now standard on every trim, including the Work Truck. Super Cruise, Chevrolet's hands-free driving system, is available with trailering capability. The column shifter becomes standard across the range, and a panoramic sunroof appears on the High Country for the first time in Silverado history.
Z71 goes standard on 4WD
The quiet change with the biggest practical effect: the Z71 off-road package is now standard on every four-wheel-drive 2027 Silverado. Skid plates, hill descent control and off-road-tuned suspension stop being an option box. At the top of the range, the ZR2 gains 35-inch mud-terrain tires, a two-inch lift, front and rear electronic locking differentials and Multimatic DSSV dampers.
What Chevrolet has NOT announced
Horsepower. Torque. Towing capacity. Payload. Pricing. A firm on-sale date. None of those numbers exist officially yet, and we are not going to invent them or recycle the 2026 figures, which do not carry over to an all-new generation. Chevrolet says only that availability and pricing come later this year.
What This Actually Means, in Plain English
A ground-up redesign is different from a refresh. A refresh changes the grille, the screens and some trim names. A redesign changes the structure the truck is built on and, in this case, the engines that move it. When you hear that a truck is all-new, this is what it is supposed to mean.
Naturally aspirated is worth decoding too. It means the V8s make their power without a turbocharger. There is less plumbing, the power delivery is linear, and a lot of truck buyers simply prefer how it feels. The 2.7-liter TurboMax sitting alongside them is turbocharged, so the 2027 lineup gives you both approaches.
Hands-free trailering is the one worth understanding before you shop. Super Cruise lets you take your hands off the wheel on mapped highways, and the trailering version extends that to when you are towing. Chevrolet says no competitor currently offers hands-free towing. If you regularly pull a trailer up I-95, that is a real change to what a long drive feels like.
The short version: new engines, new platform, bigger screens on every trim, off-road hardware standard on 4WD, and no numbers yet on what it tows or what it costs.

What people do need is a truck that copes with sand and clay two-tracks out toward the Sandhills, with a soft boat ramp at a Cape Fear River launch, and with a job site after three days of rain. Skid plates and off-road suspension as standard equipment on every 4WD truck fits that use case better than an option package most buyers skipped.
Hands-free trailering fits the routes people run from here
The daily grind around Fayetteville is the All-American Freeway and the I-295 Outer Loop toward a Fort Liberty gate. The long haul is I-95, whether that is a PCS move, a camper headed for the coast, or an equipment trailer going up the seaboard. If your truck has to work this fall, the 2027 is not your truck. It is months away with no published ratings. What usually follows a reveal like this is a sequence: full specifications and pricing are published, then production ramps, then trucks reach dealerships in waves. Individual stores typically see stock some weeks after the national on-sale date, and the first units to arrive are rarely the exact trim and configuration everybody wants.
