Chevy silverado on beach in nc

This summer, take your Silverado to the sand – it’s time to catch beach views straight from the window of your Chevy truck! Beach driving is something many people dream about doing, but it’s time to quit dreaming and start doing. Several of our North Carolina beaches are accessible for those of us who want to hit the sand.

If you’re searching for a new Silverado that is capable of beach driving, contact us below or call us at (910) 728-4618 to get started.

Carolina Beach

This park is an undeveloped playground for those who want to get off the beaten path. Head to Freeman Park Recreation Area for two miles of beaches perfect for your Silverado. Overnight camping is allowed with a permit between April 1st and September 30th.

Corolla Beach

Night driving is allowed here, as well as overnight parking if you’re actively fishing. (Night fishing, anyone?) Access the beach year-round from the Northern end of NC 12 and make sure you get a parking permit during peak vacation time (this is between the Friday before Memorial Day through Labor Day).

Hatteras Island and Ocracoke

The Cape Hatteras National Seashore manages these beaches, and permits are required to drive here. Make sure your Silverado is updated on all inspections and registration, and pack a low-pressure tire gauge, shovel, jack, and jack support board. You can find access points online here

Kill Devil Hills

This beautiful location only allows driving between October 1st and April 30th, so go ahead and make your plans for the fall now. Your truck must have a current safety inspection, registration, and insurance. Driving permits are required and can be obtained through the Town of Kill Devil Hills or Nags Head.

Nags Head

The same requirements at Kill Devil Hills must also be met here. Nags Head and Kill Devil Hills share the same schedule for beach driving and will honor each other’s beach driving permits.

Beach Driving Tips

Never get caught unprepared! Be sure to bring your traction mats and tow strap for assistance should you or a buddy get stuck in the sand. Air down your tires for sand driving; recommended PSI is 15-22, depending on the conditions. A lower PSI will be more effective in softer sand, while a PSI around 20 is better for packed sand.

Drive above the high-tide line to avoid corrosive salt water eroding the components of your vehicle and only bring your 4x4 vehicles out to the beach. Be courteous to other beach goers, stay away from wildlife, and always try to drive in tracks that have been made by other beach drivers.
