If you are thinking about buying a truck and not sure if it will fit in your garage, you probably want to know the measurements of different kinds of trucks. Read on to learn more about the different classifications of pickup trucks and how they vary in size.
Truck sizes and classes?
Midsize truck: The average dimensions of a midsize truck are around 210x72 inches. The midsize truck class is the smallest of the three covered in this piece. An example of a midsize truck would be the Chevy Colorado. You will want to have at least one foot of clearance in your garage on both the front and back of the truck you will be parking there. A midsize truck will require at least a 20-foot garage to be safe.
Full-size truck: Full-size pickup trucks are slightly larger than the average midsize truck. The length of a full-size truck can be around 2 feet longer than a midsize truck. A full-size truck is also slightly wider than a midsize truck by about 6 inches. An example of a full-size truck is a Chevy Silverado 1500. If you are trying to fit a full-size truck into a garage, you will probably need to have a garage at least 22 feet in length to give a foot of clearance between the front and rear of the vehicle.
Heavy duty: These types of trucks are in the largest class of pickups. A Heavy-duty truck weighs over 26,000 pounds and can tow weight exceeding 20,000 pounds. Because of their hauling capacity, these trucks often have double wheels in the back, making them wider than other truck classes. An example of a heavy-duty truck would be the Chevy Silverado 2500 HD. To fit one of these trucks in your garage, you will want to make sure that your garage is wide enough. The double wheels on the back of these trucks cause the back end of the truck to be the widest part.
Average Garage sizes
One-car garage: A one-car garage can be as small as 10x18 feet. Most compact trucks will need a garage of at least 20 feet in length. Make sure that you have enough space in your garage with at least a foot or two of clearance on all sides to ensure that the garage is not too tight.
Two-car garage: 18x22 to 22x22. It may be difficult to fit two large cars, such as a truck and an SUV, in a two-car garage, but you should be able to fit a mid-size and full-size truck on one side.Powers Swain Chevy trucks
